Artist Statement

The still life subject is the main focus of my work. I enjoy the elements of a transparent object such as a glass or vase, along with the play of pattern from fabric and motion from the stems of flowers. The compositions I develop usually concentrate on the positioning of many objects, surfaces and patterns together so that each time the
viewer looks at the image, something different or new is found. Most recently I've become interested in textiles created by native Aboriginal and African artists and have incorporated these patterns into some of my new compositions. Themes of trees, birds, and organic shapes represent the connection between man and nature in a spiritual sense. Also, I typically incorporate a postcard of another painting, or have a majority of the space consist of another painting/ motif. This creates another dimension within the compositions.

My subjects are colorful and bold. I enjoy depicting objects that you would fmd almost anywhere and energizing them with pattern and color. By capturing color and movement in my work, I try to enhance the beauty in the everyday.
